Alaska Thunderfuck 5000, winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Star’s season 2 and ultimate queen, has a new act that is a glorious tribute to the beloved show “Golden Girls.” With the help of her best friend and cute pianist Jeremy Keller, the audience is taken a journey back to 1985 via a seance that allows Alaska to hilariously embody all four memorable legends from the hit show.
In addition to four amazing quick changes and complete character transformations, Alaska also sings several comedic and amazing songs. It is always refreshing and awe-inspiring to see a drag queen that can actually sing (not just lip sync), and Alaska doesn’t disappoint. In addition to her commanding stage presence, she has an impressive voice and does some fierce belts. Throughout the show, she sings songs as Sophia, Blanche, Rose, and Dorothy, and even gives several renditions and remixes of the iconic theme song, “Thank You For Being a Friend.”
Intermixed with the jokes and the songs was some light shade thrown to other Rugirls, with shoutouts given to Adore Delano, Katya, Sasha Velour, and Alexis Michelle–and what do audience love more than queens spilling the tea about other queens? Alaska knows her audience, knows her drag, and knows her Golden Girls, and she delivered exactly what the crowd was asking for. If anyone doubted it, Alaska is an incredibly versatile performer, and can do fun, small, niche shows like this in addition to her larger club appearances or her upcoming AAA Girls tour with Willam Belli and Courtney Act.
If “On Golden Girls” proved anything, it’s the fact that there is nothing Alaska Thunderfuck can’t do. Stop what you’re doing and go see her next performance, they’re cheap and oh-so-worth it.
